Jeff Aukuso - Swim Squad Trainer

Hi everyone

My name is Jeff Aukuso, I have an extensive background in competitive sport and I am passionate about health, fitness, and helping people to achieve their goals.

Currently I work for Wellington Free Ambulance as a qualified Paramedic and have been a Volunteer Fireman with the Newlands Volunteer Fire Bridge for over 3 years.

I have a background in competitive swimming, where I competed at both age group level and open level, and have trained with top international coaches. At age group level I won several medals in the Auckland Age Group Champs including a 1st placing for 50m freestyle; and when competing in New Zealand Age Group level, I made several top 8 finishes including gaining a 3rd placing for 100m backstroke. I was ranked in the top 10 for the 200m Butterfly at New Zealand Open level, and at the Auckland Open I gained a 3rd placing for 200m butterfly. I also have had experience racing in the Australian Age Groups.

I enjoyed the new challenge of training for triathlon last season, which led to racing in numerous local triathlons and completing the Taupo Half Ironman. I am currently training towards both the Taupo and Tauranga half ironman, as well as many local sporting events.

This year I took part in the Firefighter Skytower Challenge, which is a charity event that raises money for the Leukemia and Blood Foundation. Firefighters from around the country suit up in full firefighting gear and climb the 51 stories (1103 steps) to the top of the Skytower. This year I trained hard and coached fellow firefighters for the event, which I completed in a time of 14 mins 03 secs. My goal is to improve on this time in next year’s race and hopefully place in the top 10.

I have a genuine altruistic nature and enjoy encouraging others to achieve their sporting ambitions. I’ll leave you with this inspiration:

“Sweat plus sacrifice equals success”
